== Early Life and Education ==

Sehgal gained a Bachelor of Engineering degree from London University in 1982. After graduating in computer science and physics Bsc (Hon) he joined the family business, Sehgal Cosmetics Ltd, working in the manufacturing department. After a year he was promoted to director for sales and marketing where he introduced a new computer system to the company and developed the software applications for managing a customer database, product distribution and company finance across the manufacturing and retail parts of the business.

== Business Career ==

In 1984 Rickie Sehgal and his brother Sunil (Sonny) founded Transputec Computers to take advantage of the rapid growth in the personal computer industry which began in the early 1980′s. Rickie Sehgal is the CEO of Transputec. The company specialises in providing personal computer hardware, software, training, installation and support to large corporate businesses and SMEs. Transputec’s website says it looks after customers across a broad range of industries from banking and finance to entertainment, construction and retail. Transputec as one of the first major IT businesses to develop and promote cloud computing technologies. The company now manages cloud technologies for more than 500 companies of all sizes. Its clients include Danone, Nando’s, McDonalds, Swissport and the Ministry of Justice.

In 1993 Transputec Computers Limited was registered as a privately owned Public company.

In 1995 Rickie Sehgal, acquired Legal Technologies Limited (LTL) a company providing stenographic equipment and services to UK courtrooms. The company is a leading supplier of document imaging and court room presentation systems. The company was sold to Oyez Strakers in 1997 and Sehgal was made Non-exec chairman and advisor to the board on new technologies. Oyez has subsequently sold the business to Kroll Ontrack Ltd.

In the min 1990s – at the beginning of the dot-com boom Sehgal launched ITDealer.com. This was a move which attempted to change the way in which the IT reseller system worked by making it easier for vendors, distributors and channel partners to source IT products and manage their stock via web based management technology. ITDealer.com now offers its products and services across Europe.

Sehgal is also the founder of Global Reach, a joint venture of companies with partners throughout Asia, the UK, Europe and the US who benefit from multi-national collaboration to deliver complex international technology solutions. In 2005 he received the Non-Resident Indian Institute’s prestigious Pride of India Award for business excellence – in recognition for his achievements in building economic and technology ties with India.

== Charitable and Public Service ==

Rickie Sehgal is an active promoter of Asian business and communities in the UKHe is a UK Conservative party activist and has been involved in a number of ventures with Conservative Party Central Office over the past decade.

In 2008 Sehgal was appointed to the board of the Legal Deposits Advisory Panel. The LDAP was established in 2005 to make recommendations on the best methodology to ensure the nation’s digital output was archived effectively. The Chairman of the board at during Sehgal’s time on the panel was Ed Vaisey MP the then Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries.

Sehgal is also a senior executive of the Hindu Forum of Britain and helped the organisation become the voice of UK Hindus to government, media and commerce. He has played a key role in organising the 2005 and 2006 Diwali in London celebration in Trafalgar square in collaboration with the Ken Livingstone and the Mayor of London’s office. Now a landmark event in London’s festival calendar, it is the largest Diwali event celebrated and televised outside of India. He was also instrumental in bringing the Hindu festival to the House of Commons. The British Prime Minister, David Cameron attended the event in 2009.

Sehgal also served as executive member of the Council of Ethnic Minority Voluntary Organisations (CEMVO). CEMVO is committed to extending opportunities to people from the most disadvantaged communities in the UK, providing a voice for the minority ethnic voluntary and community sector.

He was also shortlisted for the Asian Achievers Award in 2010.

Sehgal was also instrumental in getting the law changed over the criteria where a cow can be destroyed if it is injured. Sehgal took up the cause after the highly publicised incident of a sacred cow being put down by the RSPCA at a Hindu temple in Watford.
Sehgal is a sponsor of the Haven (Help a Village Emerge New) charity. His company, Transputec has equipped classrooms in Bangladesh for the charity.

== Controversy ==

In 2012 Rickie Sehgal was videoed by a Sunday newspaper appearing to offer David Cameron’s phone number in exchange for a donation to the Asian/Conservative organisation he represented. He has always denied this was his intention and that he was ‘set-up’ by the reporter.
